Sussex Tech senior earns Eagle Scout rank
Sussex Tech senior Luigi Gargano has attained the rank of Eagle Scout after completing a service project to help feed and support community members in need.
Luigi, a Scout since second grade and a member of Troop 584 in Seaford, said he decided to create care packages, and cook and deliver two meals to residents of Seaford Ace Peer Resource Center, which assists those in need.
With chicken donated by Mountaire Farms and kitchen facilities loaned by Seaford VFW Post 4961, Luigi and his volunteers cooked 50 meals, including chicken noodle soup, salad and brownie, and tacos with a side of rice and dessert.
Luigi and friends also stuffed care packages with donated toiletries, hand sanitizer, hand warmers, socks, gloves, snacks and other supplies. The entire project took Luigi and his friends nearly 140 hours to complete.
In addition, Luigi also earned 47 merit badges, more than double the 21 required to become an Eagle Scout. As a longtime Scout, he said he most enjoys camping, meeting new people, and learning leadership and survival skills.
At Sussex Tech, Luigi is a member of the National Honor Society, Multiplying Good, and the marching band. He said he plans to study electrical and computer engineering at Delaware Technical Community College.
