The Sussex Tech soccer squad hosted the Conrad School of Science Aug. 22 in its first scrimmage of the fall season. The Ravens scored four goals, while only allowing three. The scrimmage was played in game conditions with 40-minute halves.

Tech gave up the first three goals of the scrimmage before getting on the board. The Ravens turned it around in the second half, outscoring the Red Wolves 3-0.

“It was a great opportunity to evaluate our players in real-game situations,” said Tech head coach Carlos Villa. “We improved in the second half and had some positive contributions from some of our inexperienced players.”

Sussex Tech went 9-6 in 2017.

“We had a better showing than we had last year,” said Conrad coach Leo Marianiello, whose team made it to the state tournament last year. “I feel we’re getting our season off right.”

Conrad School of Science went 9-4-2 in 2017 and lost 3-2 to McKean in the opening round of the DIAA Tournament.

The Ravens will participate in the Cape play day Saturday, Aug. 25, and open the regular season Friday, Sept. 7, at Worcester Prep. Conrad opens its regular season against Christiana Monday, Sept. 10, at A.I. duPont Soccer Stadium.
