Sussex Tech vocalists place in Renaissance Music Competition

November 22, 2018

More than 30 student singers from Sussex Technical High School recently competed and won third place at the Renaissance Music Competition at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.

Members of the Bella Voce women’s singing group and male members of the Chamber Ensemble sang the piece “Fair Phyllis,” a madrigal by John Farmer published in the 1500s, competing against 12 high school groups from around the region.

“They gave a lovely performance with solid tone and intonation, and great interactions. It was a wonderful show, and they should be proud,” said Sarah Rose, Sussex Tech chorus instructor. “The Renaissance Faire has been a long-standing tradition for Sussex Tech, and we were glad to be able to return. It’s always a lot of fun to perform authentic Renaissance music at the festival.”

Students participated in the large-group category, and were judged on intonation, clarity, blend, musicality, difficulty and presentation.
