Sussex Teenage Republicans to meet Aug. 21

August 9, 2020

For the first time in five months, the Sussex Teenage Republicans held a meeting, gathering at the beach in Fenwick Island for a bonfire and s’mores.

Guest speaker was Larry Mayo of the First State Institute on the Constitution. He spoke about the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The teens thought this was a very apropos topic in view of the current situation in some of  the country’s major cities. They also were joined by Sen. Gerald Hocker, R-Ocean View, and Rep. Ron Gray, R-Selbyville.

Two endorsed candidates fresh from the Delaware Republican Convention were also in attendance. U.S. Senate candidate Jim DeMartino and U.S. congressional candidate Lee Murphy spoke about the importance of being politically aware.

Elected officers also were announced. Gus Fadden is chair, Ben Parsons is vice chair, Bella McLaughlin is secretary, and Josie Peranteau is treasurer. They will serve as club leaders for the next year.

Membership in the Sussex Teenage Republicans is open to youth between the ages of 12 and 19.

The next meeting will be held Friday, Aug. 21. The location will be announced on the group’s Facebook page.
