Sussex Y honors Tommy ‘TC’ Coveleski with new scoreboard dedication

A new pool scoreboard was dedicated April 17 at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach, in memory of Tommy “TC” Coveleski, a beloved figure in the Rehoboth Beach community.
Coveleski, a volunteer coach and member of the Sussex Family YMCA, coached flag football, basketball and soccer at the Y. The new scoreboard will enhance the Y’s swim team and aquatic events, ensuring that Coveleski’s legacy continues to inspire young athletes. This meaningful addition to the facility was made possible through the generosity of Preston and Kathleen Schell.
“We are honored to dedicate this scoreboard in TC’s memory,” said Preston Schell. “TC was a bright light in this building, touching the lives of so many with his kindness, leadership and unwavering support. As a former [Rehoboth Beach Patrol] lifeguard, I was privileged to know him, and he is deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to learn from him.”
YMCA of Delaware Community Vice President LoriKay Paden emphasized the importance of community partnerships in strengthening local connections. “It warms my heart to see our community come together in such a meaningful way,” said Paden. “Generous contributions like this help the YMCA continue its mission of building stronger communities. Tommy ‘TC’ Coveleski was a mentor, leader and champion for young athletes in Rehoboth Beach, leaving an unforgettable impact on youth sports.”
“Tommy always celebrated the success of others, gave his time selflessly and made every underdog believe they could achieve greatness,” said his brother Pete Coveleski.
“Preston has talked about what a wonderful person Tommy was for years,” said Kathleen Schell. “He made a huge impact on Preston’s life with his quiet leadership and care for others. Our son Brady has gotten so involved with the YMCA with swimming over the last year, and we realized the scoreboard needed updating for the kids during the meets, as it was always breaking down. There was an opportunity to dedicate it to someone, and Pres immediately thought of TC, with his work at both the Y and on the beaches. We are very grateful to be able to honor his memory in a way that the kids swimming every day can learn about his impact on the community.”
