Swimming advisories issued in Cape Region

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has issued three recreational water advisories in recent days – two July 22 and one July 23.
Advisories for Herring Point Beach in Cape Henlopen State Park and Savannah Beach in Lewes went into effect at 5 p.m., July 22. As of 4:30 p.m., July 23, the Savannah Beach advisory was lifted. The Herring Point advisory remains in place.
DNREC issued another advisory for the main beach in Cape Henlopen State Park at 4 p.m., July 23.
The beaches remain open.
Advisories are issued due to fecal indicator bacteria that tested above recreational water quality standard. DNREC says the higher levels were found during routine sampling.
The advisories say the highest risk of illness is most significant for people with certain medical conditions or compromised immune systems.
DNREC said additional samples have been taken, and the advisories will be lifted once bacteria levels are below standard.
