Swimming advisories issued for Herring Point Beach in Lewes
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has issued recreational water advisories for Herring Point Beach in Cape Henlopen State Park due to fecal indicator bacteria that tested above recreational water quality standard.
The advisories went into effect at 5 p.m., July 22, and are due to expire at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 23.
The agency said the higher levels were found during routine sampling.
The advisory said the highest risk of illness is most significant for people with certain medical conditions or compromised immune systems.
DNREC said an additional sample has been taken, and the advisory will be lifted once bacteria levels are below standard.
