Taking maskless bicyclist critics to task

July 27, 2020

I happened to take note of the arrogant responses by three writers in Tuesday’s (July 21) Cape Gazette to Henry Weissenberger’s letter objecting to the mask requirement for cyclists in Rehoboth.

Andrew Herrick called Mr. Weissenberger, “…dangerous. Your ignorance or denial…is why the pandemic is spreading…”  Molly Pauker and Willie Schatz say, “We’re thrilled you’re staying away.”

But, these writers and apparently Rehoboth officials have missed or ignored the recommendations by the World Health Organization.  In a June 16 communication they said that: “People should NOT wear masks when exercising (including cycling) as masks may reduce the ability to breathe comfortably.  Sweat can make the mask become wet more quickly which makes it more difficult to breathe and promotes the growth of microorganisms.”

When are city officials and clueless citizens going to wake up instead of running off visitors wanting to support our small businesses?
