TCC Rehoboth Beach participates in national backpack giveaway

Verizon Authorized Retailer TCC in Rehoboth Beach participated in the eighth annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway July 26.

Backpacks were filled with school supplies to benefit local students. This year’s giveaway saw 140,000 backpacks full of school supplies donated to children across the United States.

TCC Elite Task Force Specialist Charles Wayne said the giveaway first started because TCC’s owner, Pat Patel, wanted to give back to the community. Wayne said Patel and his wife both had a big passion for giving, so they came up with a quarterly initiative. Each quarter of the year, TCC comes up with a different way to give back. 

Rehoboth’s TCC had at least 100 backpacks to give away, said Wayne. The rest of the backpacks and school supplies will be donated to local charities that will provide them to children in need.

Wayne said his favorite thing about participating in the giveaway is the smiles and happy faces of those receiving their backpacks.

“It’s a great way to give back,” Wayne said. “You never know if the people around you have the option to get these kinds of things.”
