Thelma L. Sherman, independent woman

May 12, 2022

Thelma L. Sherman, 80, of Milton, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, after a brief illness, one day after what would have been her and her late husband's 63rd wedding anniversary. So maybe they are dancing once again.

She was a great cook, and loved to bake and take meals to anyone feeling a little under the weather.  Always there for her friends who needed rides to their appointments and maybe lunch and the slots afterward.  That caregiving spirit always taking care of someone.

Thelma was a paraprofessional for H.O. Brittingham Elementary School for 30 years.  She was a member of McColley’s United Methodist Church.  She was known as an independent woman.  She loved doing yard work and cutting her own grass, and going to yard sales. No one will ever see a cardinal without thinking of Thelma.  After retirement, she enjoyed helping her daughter pick string beans and shell lima beans.  People would ask her daughter, “How’s your Mom?”  Karen would reply “Sitting around back shelling beans; go sit and visit with her.”  Those special moments meant the world to Thelma.

Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Howard B. Sherman; and her sister, Joann Foster.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Karen Brittingham (Donnie), Keith Sherman (Lori) and Kevin Sherman (Bobbi); two grandchildren, Don Allan Brittingham and Keith Tyler Sherman; and two great-grandchildren, Isabel Sherman and Noah Sherman.

Thank you to all of her loving and caring friends these past few months for calling to check on her.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, May 17, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. A time of visitation will begin at 10 a.m.  Interment will be held at Henlopen Memorial Park.

Flowers accepted, but donations are also encouraged to McColley’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 7 S. King St., Georgetown, DE 19947.
