Thomas E. Farley, DuPont retiree

Thomas E. Farley, age 74 of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Monday Aug. 29, 2011.  He was born in Wilmington  July 18, 1937, son of the late James J. and Nellie Thomas Farley.

Mr. Farley retired after 36 years service with the DuPont Company, Chestnut Run Laboratories in Wilmington.  He was a volunteer for the Lewes-Rehoboth Meals on Wheels where he had served as a driver and treasurer and he was also a volunteer for the Children’s Beach House in Lewes.  He was a member of St. Edmond’s Roman Catholic Church of Rehoboth Beach where he had served as president of the parish council and as a sacristant up until his death.  While at St. Edmond's he was on the membership rolls of the Knights of Columbus and was also a 3rd degree knight in the Monaghan and Blessed Sacrament Councils in Wilmington.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Anne Kenney Farley; three sons: Thomas J. Farley and wife Patricia and their sons Benjamin and Samuel of Newark, Terry Farley of New York City, N.Y., and Timothy Farley and his wife Christine and their children Timmer, Kayla and Jillian of Hockessin; daughter Nancy Brennan and children Kevin and Kate of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers: Andrew and Michael Farley of Florida; sister Ellen Schmid of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE where friends may call one hour prior to Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 901 New Road, Wilmington, where friends may call beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church.  Entombment will follow the Mass at Cathedral Cemetery.

The Farley family extends a special thank you to Delaware Hospice and their Transitions Program for the wonderful care they received.
