TidalHealth breaks ground on Millsboro campus

TidalHealth broke ground for a new 150,000-square-foot campus in Millsboro July 25.
It will be the single-largest outpatient facility the health system has ever built.
Steve Leonard, TidalHealth president and CEO, said it is not about size, but about community care.
“It’s not just another clinic; it’s a full-fledged, staffed healthcare campus that will serve thousands of people from Delaware each year by bringing the full spectrum of care closer to home,” Leonard said.
Leonard said the campus will have advanced imaging and diagnostics on site, as well as primary and specialty care, and a surgical center. There will also be walking trails and wellness-focused open spaces.
The campus, which is expected to employ 350 to 500 people, is located on a 30-acre site near the intersection of Routes 113 and 20, just north of the new Millsboro bypass.
Millsboro Assistant Town Manager Ashleigh Sander called the development a transformative moment for the community.
“We often talk about growth in terms of new homes, new businesses and new opportunities, but the kind of growth we’re celebrating today is about investing in the health and well-being of our residents, business owners and those who may need medical assistance,” Sander said.
The first of three planned buildings on the campus is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months.
Leonard said TidalHealth’s expansion is being driven by need, not competition.
“It’s about population growth and the age of the population,” he said. “Atlantic General joined us recently; we now have an office in Ocean View. We’re looking at Long Neck, Selbyville, you name it. Everybody’s growing.”
