Timothy Murphy, loved family, fishing
Timothy "Murph" Murphy, 61, of Laurel, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at the Suites of AccentCare Hospice, Wilmington.
Murph lost a six-month battle with that insidious demon, metastatic cancer. He stoically endured the drugs and radiation, but this horrible, vicious disease devoured him.
Born in Princeton, N.J., he was the second of four children born to Marilyn Lowe and William Thomas Murphy Sr. He attended and graduated from West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, West Windsor, N.J., Class of 1982. He enjoyed his high school experience. He had a ton of friends and went to the prom every year. He also maintained and enjoyed many of his childhood friendships through social media over the years, and impressively, retained much of the knowledge he learned in his youth and applied it daily. His time working on the family’s farm, A.H. Lowe & Sons, with his uncle Chuck instilled a work ethic that set a standard for him throughout his life.
For the last 20 years, Murph owned and operated T.J. Murphy & Son Trucking Inc., which specialized in helping residential and commercial customers in Laurel and the surrounding area. He put over a million miles on his Mack dump truck, Miss Eileen, and made deep connections with and enjoyed many friendships over the years laughing with and supporting the other independent contractors in the industry.
Murph loved fishing, especially with his dear friend, Rich Toth. Over the years, he fished for trout in Montana, yellowtail and sailfish in Islamorada, trout in Slate Run, Pa., and upstate New York, red drum and mackerel in Ocracoke, and striper on the Jersey shore. He enjoyed traveling. Every year, Murph and his wife made sure to travel somewhere beachy and enjoy all the area had to offer. He floated in the Caribbean, rode the waves of the Atlantic, drove on East Coast beaches, swam in crystal-clear lakes, and waded in a thousand rivers. He was particularly proud of his boat, Top Duck, and spent countless hours floating on the Indian River and braving the waves of the Atlantic Ocean on the Delaware shore to jump in the deep water.
In addition to his late parents, he was preceded in death by his younger two beloved sisters, Laura Murphy, who passed in 2024, and Lynn Murphy, who passed in 2010.
Murph is survived by his devoted wife of almost 20 years, Eileen Springfield; his son, Jonathan Springfield; his brother, William Jr. (Bonnie); his nephew, Michael Murphy; and his countless cousins. Murph also adored his many friends who will miss his sage advice, contagious laugh, and sharp wit dearly.
Celebrate Murph daily with peace and love.
