Treasures of Delmarva art exhibit at Gallery One through July 1

May 31, 2020

Gallery One announced its Treasures of Delmarva exhibit is open to the public through Wednesday, July 1.

These uncertain times have led people to realize a greater appreciation for the many little things that make life special. Things that might have been thought mundane and routine are now recognized as anchors of each day, treasures once hidden by people’s complacency.

In this exhibit, artists are sharing Delmarva treasures most meaningful to them. Subjects range from coastal landscapes and shorebirds to classic summer eats and local architecture from days gone by. Artist Lesley McCaskill’s acrylic painting, “Enjoying the Boardwalk,” seems to conjure all those elements. It depicts an early morning stroll on one of the local boardwalks, with the soft summer morning light swirling around bikers and joggers, and early sunbathers staking out their spot on the beach.

Scott Broadfoot’s still life oil painting, “Oysters,” depicts a classic Eastern Shore delight. Color explodes in Marybeth Paterson’s oil painting, “Time for Azaleas.”

Michelle Marshall’s acrylic painting, “After the Storm,” speaks to the eternally beautiful sea changing from tumult to peace and back again. Jeanne Mueller’s “Sunset Along Route 1” highlights Mother Nature’s gift of dazzling sunsets.

Dale Sheldon’s acrylic depiction of a picturesque island in the Chesapeake Bay, “Tied Up, Tangier Island,” is reminiscent of a bygone time, in that Tangier is little changed from its origins as a fishing village first settled in the late 1700s. Laura Hickman’s pastel painting, “Cottage in Light,” is a nod to the architectural delights of old beach cottages.

Joyce Condry’s favorite local treasure is memorialized in her acrylic painting, “Snowy Egrets.” Jan Moffatt’s acrylic, “Garden Treasures,” offers an escape into a garden wonderland complete with a distant vision of the sea.

Mary Byrd’s mixed-media painting, “Fetch,” depicts a playful day at the beach with a frisbee and a dog. The delightful sound of birds singing and ushering in new life can be sensed in the exuberant, dynamic energy of Eileen Olson’s mixed-media painting, “Treasures of Delaware.”

Gallery One will be open by appointment through Sunday, May 31, and  with appropriate restrictions starting Monday, June 1. Face masks and social distancing are required. To ensure safety of all, the gallery may limit the number of visitors at any one time.

Always staffed by an artist, Gallery One is at 32 Atlantic Ave., Route 26, Ocean View. For more information, call 302-537-5055, email art@galleryonede.com or go to www.galleryonede.com.
