Turf replacement at Cape High Legends Stadium progresses

Pad repairs needed under field; will be ready for football opener
September 29, 2020

The turf replacement at Cape High Legends Stadium was delayed slightly when workers uncovered a pad under the old field that school officials were not aware was there.

Cape Supervisor of Facilities Lenny Richardson said it was a long time since the field was last replaced, and officials thought crush-and-run was under the old field. Parts of the pad are thin and need to be replaced, he said.

“We are removing parts of the old pad on each sideline and making minor repairs on the rest of the pad,” Richardson said. “They have been busy installing the sleeves for the ball-stopping net.”

The cost to remediate and recondition the areas is almost $60,000, Richardson said.

The first home soccer game is Thursday, Oct. 22, Richardson said; it may need to be played in adjacent Champions Stadium.

Turf on Legends Stadium should be installed and ready for action for the Friday, Oct. 30 home football opener, he said.
