Unitarians to host Dances of Peace Nov. 29

November 11, 2014

Join Amina, Arif, and friends at Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29, as they feel deeper into hearts, find connections with each others' hearts and with the One Heart. UUSD is  at 33739 Marsh Road off Route 1 and Wescoats Road in Lewes.

The day will start with singing and chanting Kirtan/Songs of Peace from 10 a.m. to noon. Share a potluck lunch from noon to 2 p.m. The Dances of Universal Peace event continues from 2 to 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome; no experience is necessary.

Unitarian Universalism is a religious tradition based on seven principles valuing the worth and dignity of every person and that UUs provide a religious home for all traditions. People's relationships with one another, with diverse peoples, races and nations, should be governed by justice, equity, and compassion.

The Dances of Universal Peace are body prayers - simple music, lyrics, and circle dance movements that touch one's spiritual essence. Songs include themes of peace, healing, and the celebration of life's great mystery. Dancers create a sense of solidarity and community, and honor the underlying unity of all spiritual traditions. Live music includes drum, guitar, clarinet, and harmonium.

Amina and Arif are experienced dance and kirtan leaders from New England. Arif Leininger began dancing in the early 1970s, and Amina Silk began dancing in the early 1990s. In 2007, they joined to present the Dances of Universal Peace. Combining Arif's musicianship and Amina's graceful, heartfelt movement, they express their love for this powerful practice of healing, community and peace.

Donations follow the Gifting Economy model; no one is excluded due to lack of funds, and if someone is moved in this current time, the donation basket is a way to express thanks. No preregistration is required.
