John Marrone, a life coach who once found his life at the bottom in a jail cell, paced the stage at Delaware Technical Community College as he discussed overcoming mental barriers and reaching goals.

“We are not human beings, we are human becoming,” Marrone said.

He spoke at the inaugural UnleashU conference Nov. 1-3, a mixture of entrepreneurial discussions and opportunities for networking. More than 20 speakers from all over the country offered panels and workshops to deliver on the conference motto, best life. Best you.

Founded by Mike Fabber, a Delaware native and executive director of Joseph Patrick Fabber Memorial Foundation, UnleashU seeks to get like-minded people together to learn and share tools that help create a more successful and happier life.

“The goal is to share success, the energy and stories,” Fabber said. “There are industry specialists here to give information on how to succeed, but we’re mostly working to leave behind bread crumbs for you to follow your own goals in your own way.... We want you to be the greatest version of yourself.”

Among the speakers was Jeffrey West, founder of Be Truly Well, an integrative health center and medical spa in Newark. West shared his story of overcoming stage 4 melanoma without chemotherapy. He said the simple act of writing out and visualizing their goals can help push people to making them a possibility.

Trent Shelton, a wide receiver at Baylor, discussed the roles of perseverance, self-confidence, and desire in achieving one’s dreams.

Each presenter shared ways to approach life, with advice aimed at helping people create their own path.

UnleashU Now plans to continue the event in Delaware next year. For more information, visit unleashunow.com.
