UPDATE: Milton police find missing girl
The missing juvenile Mayra Torres has been located by the Milton Police Department.
The 16-year-old Milton girl was reported missing shortly after the Cape Henlopen High School Homecoming Dance Oct. 15.
She returned home from the dance early on Oct. 16 but then left again, said Capt. John Cornwell of the Milton Police Department.
On Oct. 19, police say they found Torres hiding in an attic room under a blanket in the Lewes home of Walter Cervantes, 20. Before Torres was uncovered, police say Cervantes told them he did not know where she was and gave police permission to search his home on Coastal Highway.
Det. Stephen Boone said police suspect Torres was in the house the whole time she was missing. He said Torres suffered no injuries during the four days she was gone.
Cervantes was arrested and charged with interference with custody, endangering the welfare of a child for harboring a runaway and hindering prosecution. He was released on a $6,000 unsecured bond.
Torres was charged with resisting arrest and later turned over to her mother.
