U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride to introduce film fest documentary

October 25, 2025

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will feature a spotlight event during its international film festival from 4:15 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, 229 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

The event will kick off with a screening of the Oscar-qualifying short film, “Elle Elle,” followed by a red carpet and soirée. At 6:30 p.m., U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride will introduce the documentary, “State of Firsts,” about her historic campaign and win.

Directed by Chase Joynt, the film follows McBride during her groundbreaking initial year in office as the first openly transgender person elected to the U.S. Congress, capturing her battles against relentless political attacks. As McBride is banned from restrooms and publicly misgendered, she confronts threats and discrimination with resilience and grace. Focused on meaningful policy work over partisan conflict, McBride said she draws inspiration from historical figures who overcame adversity, offering a powerful look at perseverance in the face of systemic opposition.
