Valhalla Pirates to invade Revival House before ‘The Goonies’ Aug. 16

August 11, 2018

The old lighthouse, the lost map, the treacherous traps, the hidden treasure and Sloth...all will return for the Revival House screening of the beloved ‘80s family classic, “The Goonies,” Thursday, Aug. 16.

But this is no ordinary screening. Treasures have been stashed throughout specific areas of the historic Milton Theatre and younger guests will be invited to uncover the loot. The Valhalla Pirates will also take the stage prior to the film for a fun family performance.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and the screening begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors.

The Valhalla Pirates are a roving band of mischievous miscreants who have been entertaining families throughout the East Coast at such venues as the Franklin Institute, the Spirit of Philadelphia, the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and the premieres of three “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. While performing, the group educates the public on the Golden Age of Piracy. The group also helps those struggling with social, emotional and medical difficulties.

The Valhalla Pirates will regale the audience with stories and participate in a game or two. To add to the pirate fun, younger audience members will be invited to participate in a treasure hunt in the theatre, as certain jewels and coins have been rumored to be left behind in various locations. A limited supply of eye patches will be available to those who arrive early.

To add to the fun, the Milton Theatre will be concocting a kid-friendly Pirate’s Brew root beer float served in a novelty pirate cup, along with specialty items available from Ogre’s Grove Comics and Collectibles, the Crooked Hammock Brewery and Little Brick Cakery.

Over the past three decades, “The Goonies” has become a beloved ‘80s cinematic treasure, and the Revival House is screening it for those who grew up with it to now share with their own children. Released in 1985, the film was directed by Richard Donner, with a screenplay by Chris Columbus who later went on to direct the first “Harry Potter” film. Having Steven Spielberg as an executive producer certainly didn’t hurt, either. The film focuses on a band of youngsters living in the Goon Docks neighborhood of Astoria, Ore., who attempt to save their homes from demolition. In doing so, they discover an old Spanish map that leads them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th century pirate. During the entire adventure, they are chased by a family of criminals who also want the treasure for themselves.

Food and beverages will be available at the box office. The film will begin at 7 p.m. For more information, go to www.revivialhousetheater.com or www.miltontheatre.com.
