A very different Five Points

November 22, 2022

The front page of our Nov. 18 edition featured a story about the impending demolition of the Bests’ Ace Hardware store just north of Five Points.

The Delaware Department of Transportation purchased the property a few years ago with the intention to eventually use it for improvements around the Five Points area. With some of those improvements nearing, the property must be razed to make way.

This image shows a very different Five Points in the 1950s. This photograph is looking north toward Nassau. Eventually, Ace would be built in the area of the clump of trees. Although the landscape has changed, the basic layout of the intersection was pretty similar 70 years ago.
