Walk With Ease fitness program signup due Sept. 5

August 1, 2022

The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension will offer a six-week walking program starting Monday, Sept. 19. Sessions continue through the week of Monday, Oct. 24.

Taking part in the Walk With Ease fitness program helps reduce pain and improve overall health. Created by experts at the Arthritis Foundation, this introductory level program provides techniques to begin and maintain a successful walking program. Program topics will include exercising safely and comfortably, improving flexibility and building strength, and reducing pain.

The Walk With Ease six-week program is available in two formats. The Zoom series meets for 45 minutes at noon, Mondays, for live, weekly group educational sessions. The email series offers weekly self-guided sessions.

Both formats include a Walk With Ease Participant Guidebook, available in English or Spanish. Participants receive weekly resources, videos and support via email and/or phone call with a Walk With Ease certified leader. Self-guided walking sessions are recommended for at least 10 to 40 minutes per day, a minimum of three days per week.

Cost is $20. Financial scholarships are available. To request an application form before proceeding with the online registration, contact Nancy Mears at mears@udel.edu. Upon approval, applicants will be notified and provided with instructions on how to proceed with registration.
