UPDATE: Water-quality advisory lifted for Tower Road beach

August 24, 2021

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control lifted a water-quality advisory Aug. 26 for the ocean beach at Tower Road. The advisory was issued Aug. 24 following bacterial test results that were above the recreational water-quality standard. These bacteria most likely originate from wildlife sources, DNREC said. Increased rainfall, waves or wildlife feeding near the surf (shorebirds, marine mammals or other warm-blooded animals) can result in these indicator bacteria washing into the near-shore waters. Advisories are lifted once indicator bacteria levels are within the recreational water-quality limits.
