Wharton’s Garden Center says goodbye

December 12, 2025

As many of you know, Wharton’s Garden Center is closing at the end of this month.

For weeks, my longtime coworkers and I have had daily conversations about the garden center, the closing and what this means for all of us, employees and customers alike. It’s been difficult. Wharton’s Garden Center is more than a job for us. As many of you also know, my connection to Wharton’s is long. My husband Bob and I opened our own business, Martin’s Garden Center, on the same site in 1988.

We forged our relationships with you years ago and with many of the employees too. We are more than coworkers; many of these people are family to me. We’ve seen children born, sons and daughters married and shared special occasions and loss.

These are relationships that I hold dear.

It’s hard to put into words what it means to see this coming to an end on the corner of Airport and Old Landing roads.

While I have been able to talk to so many of our regular customers, I wanted to officially thank all of you, whether you are a longtime customer or someone who just found us recently. We have enjoyed working with you. It’s truly been a pleasure.
