Why hasn’t Meyer weighed in on Atlantic Fields?

October 17, 2025

It is conspicuously odd that we have not heard from Gov. Meyer regarding one of the largest commercial developments in Sussex County and one of only two requests for rezoning AR-1 to C-4, especially since he has gone on record indicating the overdevelopment in Sussex County is inefficient and unsustainable. He clearly is aware the infrastructure currently in place can’t handle the increased traffic this shopping destination will create. I have personally written to the governor four times regarding this issue and have not heard a word. Why has he been so silent on this issue? Just look at the 3-2 pass vote on the Northstar development project. Affordable housing is needed, yes, but how about John Rieley and Jane Gruenebaum’s concerns? The roadways are not able to integrate the enormous amount of added car trips per day. Now add the potential for the Belle Mead and Atlantic Fields development projects adding an additional 30,000-plus car trips per day. Where is the governor? Sussex Planning & Zoning clearly doesn’t seem to understand the negative impacts its votes are casting on surrounding communities, and apparently Sussex County Council seems to hear the community, but some choose to ignore.
