Cape High recently welcomed Will Revels as a new assistant principal, a position that opened when former assistant Kristin DeGregory was promoted to principal.

Revels joins Cape after 22 years with the Indian River School District, where he most recently served as assistant principal at Indian River High School. Prior to that, he was supervisor of instruction at the district level and began his career as a social studies teacher.

“I feel lucky to be here,” Revels said. “I have been admiring the Cape district for a while, and the time was right for change and growth. Cape offered me the opportunity to grow professionally.”

As a former social studies teacher, Revels said he is pleased to oversee the social studies department at Cape High, where he also is responsible for the fine arts and performing arts departments.

The theater ensemble’s fall performance of “Radium Girls” has been a highlight of his tenure so far, Revels said, noting he is impressed with the district’s focus on the arts.

“This school gives students the opportunity to grow that way and provides them with a canvas to paint on,” he said. “Encouraging the arts is huge.”

Revels said he appreciates the Cape district’s focus on the growth mindset, in which teachers work to help students realize their potential, even if they’re not immediately successful learning a new concept, and work toward their goals.

“The brain can and will grow if we feed it,” he said.

Revels said that Cape’s mission and vision appeal to his own personal views on equity and accountability.

“I’m excited to be part of the Cape family, and I want to thank everyone for being so welcoming,” he said.

Revels is heavily involved with Special Olympics, a cause important to him personally because he has a sister with Down Syndrome. He serves as a golf coach and assists with bocce and cycling events.

Originally from Prince George's County in Maryland, Revels attended Salisbury University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in social studies secondary education with a minor in economics, and fell in love with the Eastern Shore.

Revels received his master’s degree in instructional technology and school leadership from Wilmington University and is certified in learning-focused instructional leadership. He lives in Dagsboro with his wife Charlie and their 10-year-old daughter Rayne, a volleyball player who may choice into the Cape district.
