Wilson 'Mac' Cullum, electrical contractor

Wilson Maclyn "Mac" Cullum, 87, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Harbeson, son of the late Wilson K. and Mary A. (Fleetwood) Cullum.

Mr. Cullum graduated from Lewes High School in 1944.  Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II on the USS St. Paul. After Mr. Cullum's honorable discharge, he embarked on a lifelong career as an electrical contractor.  Throughout his successful entrepreneur career, Mr. Cullum owned and operated numerous companies including Coastal Investment, WK & WM Cullum Electrical, M & W Holding and M & W Corporation.  Mr. Cullum also owned Philips Landing in Laurel with his lifelong friend and business partner Harry Faust.

Mr. Cullum was an active member of Lewes Presbyterian Church since 1939, where he was a deacon, trustee and an elder.  He was also a member of the Antique Car Club of Delaware, Improved Order of Redman, president of the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary and the American Legion Post 5 in Rehoboth. Throughout his life, Mr. Cullum was a classic car enthusiast who enjoyed spending time restoring classic cars.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cullum was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Cullum Hazzard in 1989. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Alberta M. (Davidson) Cullum; three grandsons: Robert Todd Hazzard of Pawleys Island, S.C., Troy Cullum Hazzard of Lewes and Brad Stephen Hazzard of Harbeson; three great-grandsons: Hunter of Pawleys Island, Austin of Harbeson and Ethan Hazzard of Lewes; two great-granddaughters: Hailey of Pawleys Island and Hannah Hazzard of Lewes.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m., at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the services at Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
