Winners announced for Wharf Rats tournament

The Angola By the Bay Boaters Club, aka the Wharf Rats, hosted its 21st annual Fish Fest Flounder Tournament July 27.

With generous support from Rick’s Bait and Tackle and Short’s Marine, the Wharf Rats were able to provide awards to eight fishermen in four different categories.

The weather could not have been better for the 38 captains and their crews who went in search of the elusive big one. When they returned to weigh in their catches, they were greeted by a large crowd waiting anxiously to see who brought in a prize catch.

In the under-12 category, Leo Gross won with a 14-ounce sea bass. Seth Morgan won the other species category with a 5-pound, 11-ounce bluefish.

For the ocean flounder category, Seth Morgan was first at 3 pounds, 13 ounces, while Archer Morgan was second at 2 pounds, 15 ounces, and Joran Ransing was third at 2 pounds, 12 ounces.

In the bay flounder category, Daniel Broska was first at 4 pounds, 2 ounces. Mark Broska was second at 2 pounds, 12 ounces, and Ty Meck was third at 2 pounds, 6 ounces.

Tournament directors Ted Zwally and Gary Berti, along with many other Wharf Rats members and community volunteers, made this an awesome event.
