Winter WonderFest kicks off seventh fundraising season

Light Spectacular at Hudson Fields continues nightly through Dec. 31
November 22, 2022

Winter WonderFest is now open for the season at Hudson Fields. The Light Spectacular will illuminate the skies from 5 to 10 p.m. each evening this holiday season through Saturday, Dec 31. Yes, that includes Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Nestled in their warm and cozy vehicles, attendees can enjoy 20 minutes or so of quality time together while curving through a dazzling display of lights.

Created by the small nonprofit group Festival of Cheer, WonderFest contributes 100% of net proceeds directly into the coffers of Sussex County nonprofits.

This year’s new 3-D experience will make WonderFest’s Light Spectacular more fun than ever, turning every single light display into real life along the show. At the gate, 3-D glasses may be purchased for $5 a two-pack. As always, all children under 10 will receive a free kids craft at the gate to enjoy after they get home!

Guests can purchase vehicle passes to pack the family in their own car and drive through the Light Spectacular. The open-air wagon ride is also back. Guests can purchase individual wagon ride tickets, and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies along the way.

Also new this season is the jungle safari exhibit featuring dozens of animals including giraffes, elephants and leaping antelopes. The Small Wonder exhibit and Santa’s workshop are back and as bright as ever. An entirely new Santa grand finale will provide visitors with photo ops at Santa’s Train Station.

With cost-savings infrastructure completely in place, this season’s festival ambitions are simple: Increase the amount of grant funds available to the community, raise funds to purchase additional custom light displays, and prepare for the return of additional WonderFest attractions in 2023.

Festival of Cheer is accepting grant applications through Thursday, Dec. 15. Nonprofit organizations that operate in Sussex County can apply for a grant for of $1,000-$5,000 to support the purchase of capital equipment. Recipients will be announced on Christmas Eve.

Since 2016, over $237,000 in community grants have been award to support more than 27 local charities.
