Guests from as far away as Massachusetts, Mississippi, Florida, California and Alaska were among more than 4,000 people who participated in CAMP Rehoboth’s 2024 Women’s Fest.
The multi-day event included entertainment, sports, music, dancing, comedy, education and fun.
Proceeds from Women’s Fest benefit CAMP Rehoboth, an organization that supports the health of the local community, and the fair and equitable treatment of everyone, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.
“We had a fabulous four days celebrating women in the arts and humanities while having fun all around Rehoboth Beach,” said Kim Leisey, CAMP Rehoboth executive director, who noted that Rehoboth-area hotels and restaurants were full and downtown was bustling.
“The premier dance is always a fest highlight. The convention center was packed and energized,” said Leslie Ledogar, CAMP board vice president. “GirlsRoom was even more amazing this year, and DJ Peggy Castle kept the momentum up during band breaks with her skillful and thoughtful selection of just the right tunes. We are fortunate to have such great local talent to keep us on the dance floor.”
Many events sold out early. Sports were particularly popular. A crowd favorite, the drag brunch, featured entertainers Tamia Mykles, Alizee LaDiamond and Princess Escade.
New this year was a pop-up bookstore adjoining the well-attended expo. Authors signed their works and chatted with fans. “The books were flying off the tables, showing us just how much we need more LGBTQ books for sale here in Rehoboth,” said local author and comedian Fay Jacobs.
Phoenix Accessibility aided anyone with special needs. Hope Vella, the group’s facilitator, said, “The people we provided services for have been happy because they’ve been included, and they are finding that there are going to be more inclusive social spaces for people with disabilities.”
Event co-chairs Lisa Evans, Teri Seaton, Christa Marks, Michelle Manfredi and Kim Smitas created activities for all interests and kept things running smoothly. They urge readers to save the dates for next year’s Women’s Fest, to be held Thursday to Sunday, April 10 to 13.
