WomenKind ensemble to perform April 18-19

April 8, 2026

WomenKind, a new women’s a cappella ensemble, will present its debut concert, Life, Love, Laughter, at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 18, and at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 19, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 301 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

With 17 auditioned singers, WomenKind is the newest ensemble connected with the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus. It joins the Alliance Singers outreach group as part of the organization’s efforts to bring music to a wider community audience.

WomenKind’s repertoire includes pop, jazz, Broadway, women’s music and traditional choral music.

The April program includes familiar favorites such as “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” from the 1950 Disney animated classic “Cinderella,” Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” and Lorde’s Grammy-winning “Royals.” WomenKind will welcome special guest Potomac Fever, an a cappella group from the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C.

A cappella music is vocal music performed without instruments. Singers create all the sounds – melody, harmony, rhythm and bass – using only their voices. Although the WomenKind singers have deep and diverse musical backgrounds, only a few have prior a cappella experience. Others have directed choirs, sung opera professionally, and performed on stage and in choruses, including with the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus. The singers agree that a cappella singing requires members to listen and blend with each other.

WomenKind was founded by Jeff Buhrman, assistant director of CAMP Rehoboth Chorus. “Starting WomenKind and working with such talented and enthusiastic women has been an unexpected and great joy,” he said. “The group includes singers from the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus and outstanding singers from the community. That’s what makes the group different. I think WomenKind will contribute a great deal to the women’s community in the Rehoboth area. We look forward to singing for all kinds of events and special occasions.”
