Wood veneer marquetry artist sets one-day sale May 18

May 11, 2024

Wood veneer marquetry artist Robert Bruce Weston will hold a once-in-a-decade show and sale from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 18, in the Cannery Village recreation center, Milton. The event is open to the public free of charge.

A retired master cabinetmaker, Weston has developed a new field of art he describes as painting with wood figure. He uses the techniques of marquetry to make novel art creations only possible with the use of wood figure. Rather than simply using the typical marquetry technique of re-creating pictures or scenes with tiny pieces of wood veneer, for many of his creations, he relies heavily on the grain and figure found in his extensive collection of wood veneer.

Weston has amassed his novel art into this newly available collection of more than 200 mostly unseen works.

A member of the Rehoboth and Ocean City art leagues, and the British Marquetry Society, he has received many accolades in local shows, including two consecutive Best in Show awards in the Rehoboth Art League’s Fine Craft shows of 2022 and 2023.

Weston said, “From small to large, realistic to abstract, colorful to monochrome, many of these works will be available as art bargains, some as stunning creative finds, and others as can’t leave without it works of art. All works are hang-ready for your home or business, many are framed, many are gallery wrapped.”

Cash, checks, Zelle, Apple Pay and major credit cards will be accepted for purchases.
