Since the early 2020s, the national farm labor shortage issue has become more and more prevalent. Finding effective and efficient farmworkers is a consistent challenge among agricultural producers nationwide.
The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension invites agriculture business representatives to a free workshop on on the H-2A Temporary Farm Workers Program, which aims to fulfill labor needs for migrant farmworkers.
The session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the UD Carvel Research and Education Center, 16483 County Seat Highway, Georgetown. Lunch will be provided. Advance registration is required. To sign up, contact Karen Adams at adams@udel.edu or call 302-831-3328.
The day’s agenda will include an overview of how the H2A program works and how to incorporate H2A workers within a farming business.
“Program attendees will leave with a better understanding of how the H2A visa program works, and will gain valuable insight into the program process, legal considerations and financial management of hiring H2A workers,” said Nate Bruce, a farm business management specialist for UD Cooperative Extension.
In addition to Bruce, attendees will hear from Henry Bennett of Bennett Orchards in Frankford; Paul Goeringer, a legal specialist from the University of Maryland; and Brandon Davis, an immigration attorney from Phelps Dunbar LLP.
