Yoga for strong bones virtual classes offer new options

September 22, 2020

To help people maintain strong bones and stay independent as they age, Ellyn Hutton, BSN, RN, will lead Yoga for Strong Bones and Breath Resilience classes via Zoom. Sessions are offered at 10 a.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and at 6 p.m., Wednesday. Participants can work to improve pulmonary function, boost stamina, and build strong bones and overall flexibility. Use of props (wall, chair, blanket, pillow, block) is encouraged to make this accessible to all.

Hutton has trained with Dr. Loren Fishman, who researched the positive effects of yoga on bone density. She will share the 12 specific poses that, when practiced four times a week, can strengthen, reverse and halt bone loss. Classes offer options to stay strong and connected as the days cool and people shelter inside.
