'Young Frankenstein' screens July 21

At Canalfront Park in Lewes
July 14, 2011

Rehoboth Beach Film Society continues Cinema by the Canal, an outdoor film series for all ages, with a screening of "Young Frankenstein" at dusk Thursday, July 21, at the Lewes Canalfront Park,  211 Front St.

"'Young Frankenstein' is the gold standard of cinematic spoofs," said AMC's film critic Bill Gibron. This affectionate parody of classic horror movies stars Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, and Peter Boyle as the Monster. When a young neurosurgeon (Wilder) inherits the castle of his grandfather, the infamous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein, he decides to visit his new property. He is dismissive of his grandfather's work, but upon arriving at his new home, he discovers his grandfather's diary, describing the elder Frankenstein's reanimation experiments in full detail.

The young doctor becomes inspired to continue his grandfather's work, and he is aided in this quest by the members of his new household: the hunchback Igor (Feldman), pretty lab assistant Inga (Teri Garr), housekeeper Frau Blucher (Cloris Leachman), and his uptight fiancée, Elizabeth (Madeline Kahn). Will the grandson's experiments produce the same disastrous results that ruined the life of the elder Dr. Frankenstein?

The film will begin at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.) and is free to the public. All ages are welcome. Attendees should bring chairs or blankets and insect repellent. Cinema by the Canal will conclude Thursday, Aug.18, with a screening of "Secretariat." For more information, go to www.rehobothfilm.com.

A special thanks to the friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park and WBOC/Fox 21 for cosponsoring this outdoor film series.
