Youth on Course now offers access to golfers in Delaware

July 4, 2020

Youth on Course – a nonprofit organization providing young people with access to opportunities through subsidized golf, college scholarships, paid internships and a caddie program – has partnered with the Delaware State Golf Association to expand affordable rounds of golf in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The partnership opens the doors to affordable golf and life-changing opportunities to children in 36 states and Canada. Young golfers in the state will have access to participating facilities including Delcastle Golf Course, Ed Oliver Golf Club, Newark Country Club and Rock Manor Golf Course, with the goal of having 10-12 courses available by the end of summer.

“2020 is set to be our best year partly due to our tremendous growth and member engagement,” said Michael Lowe, vice president of programs for Youth on Course. “We’re proud to welcome the Delaware State Golf Association into the YOC family, and excited to expand our reach and available opportunities to the junior golfers in the state.”

Young golfers ages 6-17 in the state will be able to join the Youth on Course national network. Benefits include access to golf for $5 or less at nearly 1,400 facilities, membership to local, state and regional golf associations, ability to apply for college scholarships, and paid internships. Golfers in Delaware can sign up for a Youth on Course membership at www.dsga.org/YOC.

“The Delaware State Golf Association is thrilled to take this step forward in offering more opportunities for junior golfers to access the game of golf here in Delaware and in neighboring states,” said Laura Heien, executive director of Delaware State Golf Association. “Youth on Course memberships are going to be a fantastic chance for families to play golf together in an affordable way. We are grateful to be expanding our partnership with our friends from The First Tee of Delaware as a part of this launch and look forward to growing the number of youth golfers in the state of Delaware in 2020 and beyond.”

Since 2006, Youth on Course members have completed close to a million rounds while the organization has helped generate more than $6.8 million in tee-time revenue back to individual golf courses. In addition to subsidizing youth golf rounds, Youth on Course also facilitates college scholarships, paid internships and a caddie program. Since the inception of the scholarship program in 2008, it has awarded 262 students with scholarships totaling close to $2 million in financial support. The current scholarship retention rate is 93 percent.
