Zelky’s auctioning arcade games from north Boardwalk spot
Looking to make room for new arcade games when it reopens in a couple of summers, Zelky’s Beach Arcade North is auctioning off roughly 80 of its existing games.
The arcade announced the auction Sept. 1 on its Facebook page.
“With Zelky’s North closing down for a building demo, we are auctioning off the arcade games to make room for all new ones when we reopen after the new building is erected!” reads the announcement.
The arcade’s north location is closing because it’s one of five businesses that fall within the footprint of the One Rehoboth Avenue Hotel project taking place between Baltimore and Rehoboth avenues. The other businesses are Grotto Pizza’s Whiskey Jack’s, the former Dolle’s Candyland building, Sirocco Motel on Baltimore Avenue and Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard on Rehoboth Avenue. Earlier this summer, the pizzeria and the motel were demolished. The three remaining buildings will be demolished this fall.
Zelky’s Beach Arcade has been operating on the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach since 1985. The north location was the original, but over the years, the arcade has expanded to include a south Boardwalk location and one in the Tanger Outlets Bayside.
The north Boardwalk location is going to move about 50 feet north from the current location when construction is done, said owner Matt Weiner. The other two locations will remain open during construction, he said.
The games auction is live now and is online only. It will run through 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10. Checkout and removal will begin Thursday, Sept. 11, and run through Saturday, Sept. 13. Arrangements will be by appointment only afterward.
The auction is being conducted by Bill Bramsey and Associates Auctions out of Asheville, N.C. For more information on the auction, go to bramsey.com.
Zelky’s two other locations are Zelky’s Beach Arcade South, 115 S. Boardwalk, and Zelky’s Beach Arcade in Tanger Outlets Bayside, 36706 Bayside Outlet Drive, Rehoboth Beach.
