We have never had any success attracting song birds to our backyard bird feeders. Blackbirds and starlings have always decimated the feeders, so we gave up.
Now, as if by magic, thanks to some different types of bird seed, we have a backyard bird sanctuary. My wife and I love to watch birds, but we argue over what they are. It makes me appreciate even more dedicated bird watchers who can ID birds. Luckily, I know people who can ID birds for us. We can pick up on the obvious birds such as cardinals, but beyond that we are at a loss. Should we be excited that we have Carolina Chickadee and Tufted Titmouse in our yard? You bet we are.
Just before sunset the other day, I crouched down on the ground near the feeders and took some photographs realizing I need something – a longer camera lens or at least a teleconverter. It’s on the wish list.
