Delaware Shore teams Excel at Limelight Showcase

The Delaware Shore U19 Inlet team earned the Pool C championship by having an undefeated day. They opened play with a 1-0 win over  Central Penn Elite with Marcella Sabbagh scoring the goal. They slipped a bit in their second game with a 1-1 result against the Central Penn FH Club. The goal was scored by Allie Davis with an assist from Anna Harrington. The third game as a 2-0 win over the Warhawks with Davis and Amanda Sponaugle getting the goals. Maddie Wilber had an assist in this game. Their last game in pool play was a 2-1 victory over East End Black. Wilber and Davis again had goals and Harrington contributed an assist. The championship game ended in a 2-1 result with goals by Sabbagh and Taylor Smith (Davis had an assist). Kayla Brady contributed strong goal keeping for the day.

The other U19 Delaware Shore team, Towers, also finished undefeated at 3-0-1 but lost the opportunity to play her sister club team by the goal differential tie breaker.

The U16 Riptides team (consisting of mainly U14 athletes) finished their pool play with a 2-2 result while the other two U16 teams each ended with a 1-3 records.

The U14 Breakers also finished with a 2-2 record to close out last Saturday’s play.

On Sunday the U14 RiptidesX team went undefeated in pool play with a 3-0-1 record. In their first game Lori Sapp had a hat trick and both Noelle Sabbagh and Sommer Dorman had a pair of goals. Game two was a game where the team dominated play but was unable to get the ball into the cage resulting a 0-0 result. Game three was a 3-1 win with goals by Sapp, Dorman and Emma Westbrook. The final game of pool play ended in a 3-2 victory with Sabbagh getting the winning goal after time had expired on a penalty corner (assist by Sapp). Sapp had the other  two goals in the game.

In the championship game Sabbagh gave the team an early lead by the opponents came back with a tying goal with 15:16 remaining. The outcome of the championship game was determined by a chaotic sudden victory goal by the opponents.
