Food Trucks a Hit in Coastal Delaware
Never let it be said that we here at the Oldfather Group don’t enjoy a good meal, especially when it’s prepared by one of our fabulous, locally owned and operated coastal Delaware restaurants.
We definitely have our favorites and we’re sure you do as well. But there are so many to choose from, and for that we feel very fortunate to live and work here at the Delaware beaches.
Of course, there are countless great reasons to call this area home – and fabulous local food is certainly high on the list.
But one craze that never really caught on here in coastal Delaware is the concept of food trucks, at least not until recently. But we’re happy to see that this is now changing, thanks in part to programs like the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race,” and recurring storylines on programs like “NCIS: Los Angeles” on CBS.
We’re ecstatic to see this now becoming more popular here, thanks to a few innovative entrepreneurs and local restaurateurs. Food trucks are finally beginning to pop up at events all throughout southern Delaware, including farmer’s markets, community gatherings and private parties.
And we just have to say again that we LOVE this new trend in local food options, and we want to tell you all about it at theoldfathergroup.com.
So that’s exactly what we’re going to do right now, but where do we begin?
Well, let’s start with the local event that really brought food trucks into the limelight in coastal Delaware, garnering media coverage not only in the Cape Gazette, but also in the Salisbury Daily Times and on the Web at delawareonine.com. And that is the popular “Food Truck Friday” event at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach.
Originally begun as a way to raise money for the church’s soup kitchen, this ever-growing event has since grown in popularity and is today held twice a month, beginning in April.
Anywhere from 6 to 12 trucks can be found in the church’s parking lot every other Friday, or often on Thursdays during the summer season. It was a phenomena that was slow to catch on in coastal Delaware, but thanks in part to this popular local event, food trucks are now becoming much more mainstream at the beach.
