Here's What's Happening the Weekend of May 6-8 in Coastal Delaware

No matter your age or where you live in coastal Delaware, chances are there’s something special coming up this weekend that you’ve been looking forward to. And I’m not referring to Mother’s Day or the Kentucky Derby, though those are special annual events as well.

No, I’m talking about two sure signs that spring is here and summer in coastal Delaware is drawing closer.

If you’re a young person or a parent with small children, that something likely lies on the southern end of the famous Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk in the form of the bumper cars and the Skeeball and the carousel and all the other rides and attractions that make up Funland – official opening day for 2016 is this Saturday!

And if you’re a bit older and shall we say “more seasoned,” one of the nation’s most popular farmer’s markets is just one week away from it’s 2016 debut, but celebrations begin this weekend with the Historic Lewes Farmer’s Market Hoedown. Then next weekend marks the beginning of several months of fresh vegetables, delicious baked goods, healthy fruits and much more for everyone in the Lewes area.

Though these two events highlight the first full weekend of May at the Delaware beaches, they are merely highlights of a busy few days in the area. Check below for a quintet of our favorite events coming up for the weekend of May 6-8 in coastal Delaware.

Here are our choices:

Funland Opening Day (May 7). In what has become a highly anticipated Mother’s Day Weekend tradition in Rehoboth Beach, Funland officially opens it’s doors for the 2016 season this Saturday at 1 p.m. Remember, however, that the games and rides at Funland will only be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for the month of May, but will open seven days a week beginning on Friday, June 3.
