I failed the county’s metal detector test

November 8, 2017

I was ready, but I still failed my first pass through Sussex County’s new metal detector in the administration building lobby.

I emptied my pockets and placed everything in my computer bag to pass around the detector. I know the drill.

But as I went through the detector, it lit up like the Fourth of July. The subsequent wand process did not reveal any metal objects.

So what set off the alarm? I’m blaming my Columbia coat with its fancy omni-heat thermal reflective technology. I’ll take the coat off next time.

The county is stepping up its security measures throughout its buildings, including the addition of an armed security force.
