Lineup Highlight #1

112 Days to Firefly

Before we get to the highlights, a couple of one time caveats…

  1. I will touch on the popular bands as well as the unknowns. Everyone’s music familiarity is different and I want to reach as many folks as possible.
  2. I dislike label association, but it’s the easiest way to give people context as it relates to bands they don’t know. I recognize that each band is individual and not exactly like the band I may use as a reference.
  3. If you are really excited about a band and I haven’t mentioned them, A) be patient I might. Remember, math is stupid and the whole 143 bands thing…  B) feel free to shoot me a message at the Jettyrat Facebook page or on Twitter @Jettyrat_RB, I’d love to hear your feedback!
  4. There is a madness to my method on bands I select for each segment to highlight but it only makes sense to me so just come along for the ride and enjoy.

Highlight #1 -

MUSE – This is one of two can’t miss shows for me this year. Every other band is going to depend on what the schedule looks like when it comes out.  If you aren’t familiar with MUSE, check out the songs Uprising, Madness, Super Massive Blackhole.

Twenty One Pilots – Can’t miss show #2. This was the first show I saw at Firefly three years ago. I didn’t know anything about them at the time. Noon on a Saturday and I was rolling with a larger group, someone had heard these guys were pretty cool. They blew me away. I didn’t know a single song and it was still the best show I saw that year. Even if you don’t love the music that you hear on the radio, their live show transcends their recordings and is a must see. If you live in a cave and have not heard any of their songs, I suggest Heathens, Tear in My Heart, and Car Radio as a good starter sample.

Vita and the Woolf – We will have a Five on the Side coming up soon from these guys where I will gush some more. For now this band has my attention big time, if you like Florence and the Machine, I strongly suggest you check them out. (See Caveat 2) There are only two songs available on Spotify – Brett and Qiet (Quiet.) Brett is either a really cool love song or a crazy stalker song. I haven’t quite figured it out yet, but....leaning towards stalker. Both are extremely powerful musically and vocally. Do yourself a favor, download these two songs. Get in your car. Crank it as loud as you can stand and thank me later.

Future Generations – Five on the Side on tap for this crew as well. They remind me of Moon Taxi from last year, which you’ll hear more about later. I have high hopes for the live show and I am digging some of their tracks that are beyond the Official Firefly playlist. For starters you should check out Stars and You’ve Got Me Flush.

Jettyrat’s Five on the Side interview with Luke O’Brien up next.

Until next time... Jettyrat out. Happy listening.
