MCDOUGALL PROGRAM GRADUATION DAY
Graduation Day has come with parting wisdom from our interdisciplinary leadership team. We've shared fond farewells among fellow travelers on the road to restored health and we've celebrated our accomplishments with a fabulous feast. In many ways the MCDOUGALL PROGRAM has been like "boot camp"--requiring discipline, best efforts, sober instruction, high expectations and concrete results. It has also been fun as well as exhilarating including exercise options for walking, yoga, stretching and swimming.
In 10 days this group of 32 people has lost nearly 100 pounds and experienced dramatic drops in cholesterol and blood pressure numbers while enjoying delicious, plentiful starch based plant foods. Many have eliminated or greatly reduced medications. All have learned how to thrive without the meat, dairy and processed foods responsible for the chronic diseases which have sickened us.
All of us have learned how to read labels to avoid toxic ingredients such as animal products and added oils. We have enjoyed the benefits of watching creative, talented chefs and nutritionists demonstrate the simplicity and necessity of preparing fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains for maximum nutritional value, flavor and appearance.
We go our separate ways with memories of abundant delicious foods and files of recipes, many of which I will be sharing with readers over the coming weeks. I am posting photos of a beautifully prepared meal topped off with MCDOUGALL BROWNIES and non-dairy ice cream for this memorable occasion. Salad bar, Split pea soup, mushroom sauce and baked potatoes rounded out our sumptuous buffet. The recipe for the best plant-based brownies I have ever eatens is included below.
