Bayberry - the name of a candle my mom said she loved. But I don't think the plant smells anything like the candle. They say this is a plant that grows in the marshes and the bogs, but I found this one in a garden during a garden tour.

The whole candle thing apparently comes from the wax of the fruit, once used to make candles, now we just use petroleum or if you are eco-conscious some kind of soy.

The leaves of a variety possess an ingredient that is an insect repellent, or you can just spray Deet.

And another variety offers a crop good for fresh, dried, canned, for juice, and for alcoholic beverages. I don't have an or here...

The bayberry Latin name is ... wait for it ... MYRICA. say it like this 'MER-cuh'

Apparently, it can grow everywhere in the world except Australia.
