Thoughts from a Champion - Kevin Van Dam
Kevin Van Dam is the seven time Angler of the Year. He just won the award again on the ultra competitive professional fishing circuit. Kevin has won over $5,000,000.00 in purses and has over a dozen national sponsors. He's serious about his business and his results speak for themselves. In an interview on ESPN Radio with hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, Kevin was asked what it takes to be such a dominant force in his field. Kevin answered:
"You have to love what you do."
"You have to have a tremendous work ethic - everyone who is really good - you have to be willing to work to get better everyday."
"You have to be willing to put a lot of effort into everything you do and you need to get a lot of support from family, friends, and sponsors."
"You have to learn from your mistakes. I've been making a living as a professional angler for 21 years. I made a lot of mistakes early in my career, but because I learned from my mistakes, I can use those experiences to my advantage."
"You have to be mentally tough. I've had to come from behind to win most of my big titles. You can't get down. I've been able to fish with a lot of great athletes from the sports world. All of them have believed mental toughness is a key to success."
"You have to love to compete; you have to want to be the best."
Passion, work ethic, mental toughness, drive to improve, desire to compete and win, a healthy support system - these characteristics have elevated Kevin to the top of his profession.
