Downstate boys' basketball teams fall in state tournament
St. Georges Tech player Kyson Rawls scored a game-high 20 points to lead the sixth-seeded Hawks past St. Thomas More in the quarterfinals of the DIAA Boys' Basketball Tournament at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center March 6.
St. Thomas More guard Greg Bloodsworth tallied 14 for the 14th-seeded Ravens, while Aaron Scott added nine and Elias Revelle scored eight.
St. Georges player Nah'Shon Hyland scored nine, while Joshua Williams added seven for the Hawks.
The Eagles of Smyrna fell to Mount Pleasant 53-45 in the third game of the quarterfinals before a packed house at the Bob.
Ja'vier Worthy led the Eagles with 15 points in the contest. Mount Pleasant's Raheim Burnett scored 13 points for the Green Knights.
The lone remaining Henlopen Conference team, Milford, fell to top-seeded Sanford 64-49 in the nightcap. The Warriors were paced by Mikey Dixon with 25 points. Henry Nesmith scored 20 points for the Bucs.
The semifinals will take place Thursday, March 10, at the Bob. Sixth-seeded St. Georges will play No. 7 Delcastle at 6:30 p.m. and No. 1 Sanford will play fourth-seeded Mount Pleasant at 8 p.m.

A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016.
