The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition has announced that the 19th Annual Breast Cancer Update will be held from 7:30 a.m.to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 13 at the Rollins Center at Dover Downs Hotel.

The Breast Cancer Update features leading medical experts and speakers discussing the most up-to-date information on breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. The annual one-day educational forum is free and open to the public.

It has become one of Delaware's most trusted sources of up-to date breast cancer information. The 2016 program is co-chaired by Nanci Mayer-Mihalski and Wilma Yu, RN, BSN, MS, CEN.

“This year’s Breast Cancer Update focuses on personalized medicine and how the course of treatment we see today is different from what your mother or grandmother might have faced only a few years ago,” said Mayer-Mihalski.

“Attendees can expect to learn about the latest advancements in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, explore how complementary holistic methodologies and spirituality can aid in recovery, learn about methods of breast and nipple reconstruction and gain an understanding of translational research and its role in curing breast cancer.”

Featured speakers for this year’s conference include Dr. Drew Angus, director of spiritual outreach, Cancer Treatment Centers of America; Kevin Fox, MD, director, Rena Rowan Breast Center and Mariann T. and Robert J. MacDonald Professor in Breast Cancer Care Excellence, University of Pennsylvania; Erik Hoy, MD, plastic surgeon, Premier Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery; Mandy Sauler, CPCP, micropigmentation specialist and owner, CosMed Tattoo LLC; Jennifer Sims-Mourtada, PhD, senior clinical scientist, Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Care Health System; and Marie Winters, ND, FABNO, manager of naturopathic medicine, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, among many other noted breast cancer survivors, esteemed moderators and featured presenters.

“As Delaware’s most trusted resource on breast cancer for the last 25 years, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is thrilled to present another exceptional Breast Cancer Update,” said Mayer-Mihalski. “We are confident that healthcare professionals, along with survivors and community members will walk away from the conference with a new understanding and appreciation for the complexities of personalized medicine and how it will be used in the future to impact breast cancer.”

The event features discussions by panels of breast cancer experts and attracts over 400 community members each year including physicians, nurses, social workers, breast cancer survivors, and advocates. Four contact hours and .4 continuing education units will be available to nursing professionals and social workers for $30.
