Farmer donates prize money to Dagsboro Fire Dept.

April 12, 2011

Dagsboro farmer Eric Albright won $2,500 from Monsanto Ag in its “America’s Farmers Grow Communities” program. The award, selected randomly, was donated to the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department April 11. One recipient was chosen from each county in the 31 states participating in the program. Monsanto Ag created the fund to emphasize the importance of agriculture in the United States, particularly in rural areas of the country.

Locally, in the Mid-Atlantic region, $75,000 was distributed to farmers who donated the funds to local nonprofit agencies. Nationwide Monsanto is in the process of distributing a total of $3 million. Monsanto District Sales Manager Billy Simmons said, “It is a small token that we can put in the hands of our customers and let our customers make that decision and give it back to the local communities where they live and work.”

Shown at the check presentation ceremony are (l-r) Ron Corder, Monsanto territory sales manager; Donald Powell, Dagsboro seed dealer; Albright; Shane Furbush, Dagsboro fire chief; Simmons; and Lindly Hudson, Dagsboro Fire Department president.
