Historic Lewes Farmers Market changes to fall hours

October 3, 2016

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be open for its fall market hours, 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 8. The Fall Market is located at George H.P. Smith Park, at the corner of Dupont and Johnson avenues. It then moves to the Richard Shields Elementary School parking lot at the corner of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive in Lewes, so that the area the market occupied at the park can be reseeded. On October 15, the market continues its fall season at Shields with over 27 vendors through November 19 (Saturday before Thanksgiving). In the event of inclement weather, this Saturday, Oct. 1, the market is will relocate to Shields as well.

All the favorite market vendors will be there offering the bounties of a fall harvest: winter squashes (including pumpkins), fruits, cider, beef, lamb, chicken, pork, oysters, freshly-laid eggs, breads, pastries, milk, pork, yogurt and beautiful flowers for the table.

Please note that for the remainder of the 2016 season, there will be no Children's Reading Program, demonstrations or bagels.

The market offers SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program at the Saturday market. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the market. In addition to SNAP, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market now welcomes participants in Delaware's Women, Infants and Children program. WIC coupons can now be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the market.

More information about the market is available at www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org or contact historiclewesfarmersmarket@comcast.net. To receive the HLFM newsletter, email the HLFM at historiclewesfarmersmarket@comcast.net.
